Mountain challenge for Cameron crew

The 17 staff, from Chasetown-based Cameron Homes, are taking part in their annual charity challenge in aid of the cardiac unit at Birmingham Children’s Hospital.

Senior technical co-ordinator Adam Routley, who is organising the event, said they would be climbing Mount Snowdon on September 6.

“We try to do something demanding each year to raise money for a good cause and this year we decided to tackle Snowdon.

“Lots of us are doing quite a bit of walking in preparation and we are hoping it will be a fantastic experience as we will be descending the mountain as light fades, heading to our campsite and enjoying some marshmallows around the campfire to celebrate.”

The charity was chosen by one of the team, Charmaine Sweeney, whose niece was diagnosed with a hole in the heart at birth and has received outstanding treatment from the hospital.

Charmaine explained: “My niece will undergo a four-hour operation this year and the support and care she and her family have received from Birmingham Children’s Hospital has been outstanding.

“It means a lot to know that our fundraising efforts will go some way to ensuring that more families like ours receive the support they need when living with life threatening ailments.”
