In this blog, Michael Dean, Commercial Director at Cameron Homes, discusses the importance of investing in local communities.

At Cameron Homes, creating a positive lasting impact in the local communities we operate in is just as important as the homes we build. During the planning process for each of our developments, we work closely with the local authority to agree how we can best support the community through the Section 106 agreement.

What is Section 106?
The Section 106 agreement, which is part of the Town & Country Planning Act 1990, allows us as developers and the local authority to agree where investment in the community infrastructure should be allocated.

During these conversations we look at how we can support the infrastructure of the local community and essential services such as education and health.

Community investment
The level of investment considers a number of factors such as the size of the development, therefore, the funding provided is different for every Cameron Homes project.

Since October 2023, we’ve committed over £4m across nine developments in locations across the East and West Midlands. This includes:

  • £1.38m invested in education
  • £2.06m contributed through the Community Investment Levy, supporting vital local projects like transport improvements
  • £221k for local healthcare
  • £311k towards infrastructure enhancements

Leaving a lasting legacy
At Cameron Homes, our commitment to creating sustainable, thriving communities has been at the heart of everything we do since we were founded in 1994 by Ian Burns, with the support of the late Noel Sweeney, owner of Tara Group.

Noel’s deep passion for people and places continues to shape our approach today. His belief in building with care, integrity, and community at the core remains one of our guiding principles.

That legacy lives on. We’re proud to continue putting people first - designing developments that not only provide beautiful homes but also leave a positive, lasting impact on the local environment and the communities we serve.

With fresh energy and ideas, Guy Bebbington along with the Senior Leadership Team at Cameron Homes is helping ensure our future remains rooted in the same purpose: building places people are proud to call home.
