Last week we were delighted when Tara Group shone a spotlight on mental health within the construction industry through a partnership with Lighthouse Club charity — an organisation delivering a message of positivity and support.

During a three-day experience, our employees and those from our sister companies, Keon Homes and Chasetown Civil Engineering, were visited by the Lighthouse Club charity’s ‘Help Inside the Hard Hat’ tour, as it stopped at eight of the group’s active construction sites across the region.

By partnering with the Lighthouse Club, Tara Group was able to reach out to those working for the company on site and deliver a message of support and guidance.

The Lighthouse Club tour was hard to miss, delivered from a colourful, striking van by a team providing support and resources for the individuals they visited. The team delivered a series of informal ‘Toolbox Talks’ to everyone on site, which focused on the importance of looking after health and wellbeing, as well as encouraging them to share any experiences.

Richard Williams, Senior Mental Health Champion of Keon Homes commented:

Mental health in the construction industry is a key focus area. As part of the Tara Group, every day we have a responsibility to our employees to offer them an open forum to discuss their mental health and wellbeing. Through our partnership with the Lighthouse Club charity, we have been able to set aside dedicated time to support our team, highlight professional advice and create an open channel of communication for those that may have otherwise stayed silent.

This comes at a time when Jo Mann, People Advisor at Tara Group, has been invited to chair the mental health group for the Home Builders Federation (HBF). Members of the HBF account for almost 80% of all new homes built in England and Wales, making it the voice and body of the home-building industry in England and Wales.

Jo Mann commented:

We’re delighted to be partnering with Lighthouse Club for a positive and impactful day this January, with a reported 42% of construction workers living with mental health problems, no one should have to suffer alone. By offering resources, encouragement and lending an ear, the Lighthouse Club team were able to speak with a large proportion of our Tara Group employees over the course of the last three days.
